Will of Thomas Neesham of Kingston upon Thames and previously of Stoke D’Abernon, Surrey, 1661, Clerk |
In the name of God Amen. The
seventeenth day of August Anno Domini 1661 in the thirteenth year of the
Reign of our Sovereign Lord Charles the Second by the Grace of God King of England
Scotland France and Ireland Defender of the faith I Thomas Neesham of Kingston
upon Thames in the County of Surry, clerk, being weak in Body but of perfect mind
and memory thanks be therefore given to Almight God do make and declare this
my last will and testament in manor and form following: And
First and principallyI do commend my soule into the hands of my God being fully persuaded that through the
only merritts and precious blood of Jesus Christ my only Saviour and Redeemer he will
carrie it into his Glory and give it an inheritance among all his Saints, And my Body I
commend to the Earth from whence it came, and labor in full assurance of hope that at the
revelation of Jesus Christ it shall delivered from the bondage of corruption into the
glorious liberty of the children of God and as touching the quiet of ordering and disposing
of such worldly estate as it hath pleased God farr above my deserts to bless me withall
I give will and dispose as followeth Item I give and bequeath unto my sonne Thomas
Neesham and unto my daughters Hannah Marsh now wife of Mr Richard Marsh, To
Dorothy Brewster the wife of Mr. Edward Brewster & Margaret James the wife of Mr
Joseph James the sum of six pounds apiece to buy them mourning toweare for
my sake in full of all their rights & porcons which they or either of them may or can clayme
or challenge out of my Estate, for that they have formerly had and recevied their severall por-
cons upon their severall and respective advancements and marriages. Item I give and
bequeath unto the said Elizabeth and Sarah Neesham the summe of forty shillings a peece.
Item I further give and bequeath unto the said Elizabeth and Sara my two daughters
the summe of Foure hundred pounds apeece more when they shall by effusion of time
accomplish their severall ages of five and twenty years or dayes of marriage
first happening in Case the said Elizabeth and Sara shall be married by and with the
Consent prioritie and agreement of my loving wife Catalina and not otherwise while
severall summes of monie are to be paid by my Executors hereafter and they shall become
due and payable And in case the said Elizabeth and Sara Neesham or either of them
shall happen [to] dye before their or either of their Legacie or Legacies herein bequeathed
shall be due to be paid That then my Will and meaning is and does hereby will and
bequeath this porcon of such or both of my said daughter Elizabeth and Sara or
shall so dye ones my said wife Catalina to dispose of as shee shall thinke be fitt Provided
alwayes and my will and my meaning is that in Case my said two daughters Elizabeth
and Sara or either of them shall not severally and respectively (being called to do the same)
absolutely release convey and assure all their and either of their respective estates rights
titles interests claymes and demands whatsoever of in or onto a certain Tenem[en]t
called or known by the name of the Swanhouse scituate lying and being in the
p[ar]ish of St. Saviours in the Burrough of Southwarke in the County of Surrey to such
person and persons and by all such wayes and means as my Executrix and Overseers
hereafter named or the Survivor or Survivors of them shall deem advise or require that
First they or either of them so refuseing shall loose her or their porcons and Legacies
hereinbefore bequeathed and that such bequeath and bequest her to her and them so re-
fuseing as aforesaid shall be voyd and null and the somme and sommes of monie to them
or either of them given and bequeathed in and by this my will to be and remayne to my
said Executrix And my will and meaning is that my Executrix hereafter named shall
keepe and mayntain my said two daughters Elizabeth and Sara out of the proffitts arriseing
out of my personal Estate and I doe hereby require and charge my said two daughters
Elizabeth and Sarah to be obedient unto my said wife and their deare mother Catalina and
not to marry or dispose of themselves without her consent first had for that purpose All
the rest of my Goods and Chattels Creditts debts Mortgages and other p[er]sonall estate whatsoever not
in this my will bequeathed my debts and Legacies being paid and all Funerall expenses
discharged, I give and bequeath unto my said wife Catalina Neesham whom I make and ordayne
full and sole Executrix of this my last Will and Testament And doe covenant and appoynt
my two Sonnes in law Mr Edward Brewster and Mr Richard Marsh to be or set bee Overseers of
this my will and testament desireing them to be aydeing and assisteing and with their
advice and counsell to my said executrix in the due performance of this my will And I doe
revoake disanull and make voyd all former and other wills by me heretofore made and
doe establish this to stand remayne and be my last Will and Testament In witness where-
of to this my last Will and Testament contayned in fower sheetes of paper I have to
each Sheete sett my hand and Seale the day and year first above written. Signed Sealed
published and declared by the said Thomas Neesham to be his last Will and Testament
