Thomas Browne Yeoman of Winkfield Will 1656

 

 

In the name of God Amen

The Eight day of January in the yeare of our Lord God accordinge to the English accompt

one thousand six hundred fyfty and six I Thomas Browne of the parrish of Wingfield in

the County of Berks yeoman renounceinge all former wills Doe make and ordaine this

my Last will and Testament in manner and forme followinge First I commend my

soule in to the hands of Jesus Christ my only saviour and redeemer who dyed for

my sinnes and rose againe for my Justificacon and my body to the Earth whereof itt was

made to bee decently buryed att the discrecon of my Executor and for my Lands and goods

wherewith God hath Blessed mee I doe hereby dispose in manner and forme following

First I give and bequeath unto my daughter Alice Browne all that my messuage

Lande and Tenements with the appurtenances situate and beinge in the parrish

of Warfield in the said County of Berks To have and to hold the said Messuage Lands

and Tenements with the appurtenances to the said Alice Browne her heires and assignes

for Ever, Alsoe I give and bequeath to my daughter Alice Browne all my ninth part

Interest Claime and demand of in and out of the Manner of Wingfield in the said

County of Berks with the appurtenances to have and to hold the said Ninth part of the said

Mannor of Wingfield unto the said Alice Browne her heires and assignes for Ever

Alsoe I give and bequeath unto my said daughter Alice Browne my greate brasse pott

and my great Caldron and the bed boulster three blanketts one Coverlett one paire of

Flaxen sheets with the bedsteede she now lyeth upon being the Eighth day of this Instant

January Alsoe I give and bequeath unto my daughter Avis now the wife of Stephen

Tirry of Warfeild Clarke all that my messuage and Tenement with the appurtenances

Called or knowne by the name of Powles situate in Wingfeild aforesaid and alsoe that

Close of Lande Meadow and pasture to the said Messuage or Tenement next Joyning

and alsoe one Close of meadow or pasture Called or knowne by the name of Cowleye and alsoe

two other Cloases of Arrable or pasture called Stampittfeilds Lyinge betweene the parke

called Folly John parkes on the East and the Lane called Chartridg lane on the west and

also two Closes more the one whereof is called Berry Craft lyinge betweene the Lande

of Jonas Montague on the South and the Lane Called Wingfield lane on the North and the

other is Called or knowne by the name of Rocke which lyeth betweene the Lands of William

Atlee on the south and the said Lance Called Wingfield Lane on the North with all and

singular their and Every of their appurtenances All which said Messuage Land and

Tenements are situate lyinge and beinge in the parrish of Wingfeilde aforesaid

(To have and to hold) the said Messuage Lands and Tenements with all and singular

their and Every of their appurtenances unto the said Avis Terry her heires and assignes for

Ever Alsoe I give and bequeath unto John Terry Stephen Terry Elizabeth Terry

Avis Terry and Hester Terry my grandchildren the sume of Thirty pounds of Lawfull

English money to bee Equally devided among them and to bee paid unto them in

manner and forme followinge (That is to say to the said John, Stephen and William

att their severall ages of one and Twenty yeares and to Elizabeth Avis and Hester

att their severall ages of Seaventeene yeares Alsoe I give and bequeath unto my

 

Daughter Elianor now the wife of Thomas Clarke the younger of Wingfeild aforesaid

yeoman all my severall parcells of Land called Moses Towes and Aldes with all and

singuler their and every of their appurtenances lyinge and beinge in Wingfeild aforesaid

(To have and to hold) the said severall parcells of Lande called Moses Towes and Aldes with

their appurtenances to the said Elianor her heires and assignes for Ever Alsoe I give and

bequeath unto my Daughter Hester now the wife of John Boult of Warfeild aforesaid yeoman

one Pidle of Lande with the appurtenances lyinge in Bray in the said County of Berks, (To have

and to hold) the said Pidle of Land with the appurtenances to the said Hester Boult her heires and

assignes for Ever, Alsoe I doe hereby assigne and sett over unto my said daughter Hester Boult

my Lease of one messuage or Tenement and the Lands thereunto belonginge with the appurtenances

Called Charidge lyinge and beinge in Wingfeild and Bray aforesaid which I hold by Lease

from the Master and fellowes of St Johns Collidge in the university of Cambridge To have and

to hold the said Lease of the said Messuage and Lands Called Charidge with the appurtenances

to the said Hester her Executors and assignes for the residue of the Terme of the yeares as

shalbe then to come att my decease Also I give and bequeath to my said son in Law

John Boult one Close of Lande Called Frailes otherwise Thirds with the appurtenances lyinge

and beinge in the parrish of Wingfeild aforesaid To have and to hold the said Close called

Frailes otherwise Thirds with the appurtenances unto the said John Boult his heires

and assignes for Ever Alsoe I give and bequeath unto John Boult, Elizabeth Boult

and Hester Boult my Granchildren the sume of twenty poundes of Lawfull English

money to be equally devided betweene them and to bee paid in manner and forme

following That is to say to the said John Boult att his age of one and Twenty yeares

and to the said Elizabeth and Hester att their severall ages of Seaventeene yeares Alsoe

I give and bequeath unto my daughter now the wife of Stileman Milam of Warfeild

aforesaid yeoman all my Lands and Tenements with their appurtenances situate lyinge

and beinge in the parrishes of New Winsor and Clewer in the said County of which I

the said Thomas Browne shall dye seized of To have and to hold the said Lands

and Tenements with the appurtenances unto the said Elizabeth her heires and assignes for

Ever Also I give and bequeath unto Avis Milam, Alice Milam and Elizabeth Milam

my grandchildren the sume of Fifteene pounds of Lawfull English money to bee equally

devided betweene them att their severall ages of seaventeene yeares Alsoe I give and

bequeath unto my daughter Anne nowe the wife of Thomas Mansfeilde of New Winsor

aforesaid Drayer the sume of five shillings to bee paid withing one moneth next

after my decease And if it happen that any of the abovesaid Grandchildren should

happen to die before they have attained unto their severall ages as aforesaid Then my

will is that the overplus of the severall Legacies shalbee equally devided beweene

severall Survivors Alsoe I give and bequeath to the poore of the parrish of Wingfeild

aforesaid the sume of five poumds of Lawfull English money to bee disposed of att the

discrecon of my Executor, and Lastly  all my goods and Chattells unbequeathed

my debts and Legacies paid I give and bequeath unto my sonne in Law John Boult

whome I doe hereby make and ordaine to my sole Executor of this my last will and

Testament Overseers I make now In Wittnes whereof I doe hereunto sett my hand

and seale the day and yeare abovesaid. The Proscript Alsoe I the said Thomas Browne

doe hereby give and bequeath unto each of my Godchildren two shillings and sixpence

to bee paid within twelve moneths nexr after my decease The marke of Thomas Browne

This will was proved att London the Eight and Twentieth day of October

in the yeare of our Lord one Thousand Six hundred Fifty and Eight before the Judges for p[ro]bate

of wills and grantinge Administrations Lawfully Authorized by the oath of John Boult

the sonne in Law of the dec[ease]d and sole Executor named in the said will To whom Ad[ministrati]on

of the goods & of the said dec[ease]d was Comitted hee first beinge sworne by Commission truely to Administer
