Will of Sophia Varnden of Chertsey 1874

 

 

I Sophia Varnden

of Ottershaw in the Parish of Chertsey in the County of Surrey declare this to be

my last Will and Testament I nominate and appoint James Parham of

Chertsey aforesaid Collector and my niece Mary Douglass as my Executor and

Executrix of this my last Will and I desire that all my just debts funeral and

testamentary expenses be paid and satisfied by them as soon as conveniently

may be after my decease I give unto James Parham the sum of five pounds in

consideration of his trouble as my executor I also give unto my brother William

Varnden if he shall be living at the time of my decease  all my personal and

real estate whatoever or wheresoever for his use and benefit as long as he shall

live and after his decease I give and bequeath to my niece Mary Douglass

absolutely my copyhold cottage at Chertsey now in the occupation of James

Hudson I also give to my three nieces Ann Vincent Widow Mary Douglass

Spinster and Elizabeth Woodger the wife of George Woodger all my plate linen

and china to be divided equally amongst them and I also desire that all other

property whatsoever real or personal that I may be possessed of at the time of

my death may be sold and the proceeds equally divided amongst my six

nephews and nieces William Waterer James Douglass Albert Douglass

Ann Vincent Mary Douglass and Elizabeth Woodger and I hereby direct that

the before mentioned bequests shall take effect at my decease should my

brother the before mentioned William Varnden be then dead and I do hereby

declare that my executor and executrix shall and may out of the monies

that shall come to their hands reimburse themselves for all expenses which

they or either of them may sustain or incur in the execution of this my Will

and Testament In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand this seventeeth

day of February in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and sixty

last Will and Testament in the presence of us present at the same time who

at her request in her presence and in the presence of each other have subscribed

our names as Witnesses _____ James Coulton _____ Thomas Leggett

 

This is a Codicil to the last Will and Testament of m

Sophia Varnden of Ottershaw which bears date the seventeenth day of

February 1861 and in addition to the Legacies give by the said Will I give

to my niece Mary Douglass the sum of two hundred and fifty pounds Stock

in the New three per cents and in all other respects I do confirm my said

Will In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand this ninth day of July

in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and sixty four

Sophia Varnden Signed by the said Testator as her last Will and

Testament in the presence of us present at the same time who at her request

in ger presence and in the presence of each other have subscribed our names

as Witnesses _____ James Coulton _____ Benjamin Crampton

 

Proved at London with a Codicil 22nd June 1874 by the oaths of James

Parham and Mary Douglas in the will written Douglass Spinster the

Niece the Executors to whom Admon was granted
