Will of John Stilwell of Thursley, Surrey, Yeoman, 1659

 

 

In the name of God Amen I John

Stilwell of Thursley in the County of Surry Yeoman being sicke of body but of good & p[er]fect

memory prayse be to God doe make this my last Will and Testament this sixt day of Au-

gust in the yeare of our Lord God one thousand six hundred fifty and nine in manner &

forme followinge First I Committ my Soule to God my Creator and Redeemer and

my Body I leave to the Earth to be buried in Christian Buriall Also I doe nominate and

appoynt Mary my lovinge Wife and John my eldest Sonne to be my Executors of this

my last will and Testament and I give to them all my goods and Chattells whatsoever

Except what I doe hereby give to other persons Item I give to the poore people of Thursley forty

shillings Item I give to the poore people of Headley in the County of Southam Thirty shillings

Item I give to Edward Russell my servant Five pounds of lawfull monie of England to be paid

to him by my Executors as soone as he shall accomplish the age of foure and Twenty yeares Item

I give to Anne the wife of Robert Hardinge of Barford in the p[ar]ish of Headley in the County of

South[hampshire] one shilling Item I give to Elizabeth the wife of John Marten of the same p[ar]ish of Healey

Five shillings Item I give Mary the wife of Edmond Yalden of Elsted in the County of Surry

Five shillings Item I give to Joane the wife of Hen[ry] Marten of Elsted in the same County Five

shillings these being my naturall daughters and married before the time of this my will making

Item I give to my daughter Jane Three hundred pounds of like lawfull monie of England to be paid

within two yeares next after my decease or at the day of marriage if it shall first come Item I

give to my daughter Alice Three hundred pounds of like lawfull monie to be paid to her likewise

at her day of marriage or within two yeares next after my decease Item I give Anthony my naturall Sonne

and to his Heires forever that moytie or halfe part of my Land called by the name of Beafeelds

situate in Headley which I bought or purchased of Elizabeth Trunell to have and to hold to him

and his Heires forever Item I give to him the said Anthony one Thousand pounds of lawfull mony

of England to be paid within six yeares next after my decease Item I give to every one of my household

servants Tenn shillings apeece (except Edward Russell to whom I have given somewhat before The

Rest of my Goods and Chattells whatsoever I give to my Executors and as is abovesaid they paying my

Legacyes and discharging my Funerall Item I doe appoint William Coleman of Whitley and Ri-

chard Stilwell of the p[ar]ish of Thursley to be Overseers of this my last will and I give to every of

them twelve pence a peece over and above any charge they shall bee at to see it performed^ Rcad

Signed Sealed and acknowledged to be his last will and Testament in the p[re]sence of us Francis

This will was proved at London

the seventh day of december in the yeare of our Lord God one thousand six hundred and

Fifty nine before the Judges for probate of wills and granntinge Administrations lawfully

Authorized by the oathes of Mary Stilwell the Relict and John Stilwell the Eldest Sonne

& Executor named in the said will To whom was Committed Administracon of all and

singular the Goods Chattells and debts of the said deceased They being first sworne by Com-

mission truly to Administer
