Will of John Margesson Blacksmith of Ockley 1625 |
In the name of God Amen the fourth day of May Anno dni 1616 And in the yeares of the
Raigne of or sovraigne Lord James by the grace of God of England France and Ireland Kinge defender
of the fayth the fortenth And of Scotland the Nyne and fortieth I John Margesson of
Ockley in the County of Surry Blackesmythe being sick in body nev[e]rtheles in p[er]fect memorye
praysed be God I ordayne this my last Will and Testament in mann[er] and forme followinge First
I Commend my Soule to God my maker that gave yt And my bodye to the earthe from whence yt
Came It[e]m I Give and bequeathe unto the poore people of Ockley teene shillings to bee paid unto
them w[i]thin One monethe next ensueinge my decease by the descretion of my Ov[er]seers hereunder
named It[e]m I give and bequeath unto Richard Margesson my sonne my beedstedle in the Lofte
ov[er] the hale w[i]th the Feetherbeed blankett & the best Cov[er]light theirunto belonginge & one paire
of Sheets Also I give and bequeathe unto the said Richard my sonne the table in the hale & the
frame to the same table belonginge and the Weanescoot in the hale and parler and my great
Brasepoot & great dripping pan, and the great Poulderinge trough and the Furnes Also I
give and bequeathe unto the said Richard my sonne all the twoles in bothe the Shoppes and all the
furniture belonginge to the two Grindstones It[e]m I give and bequeathe unto John Margesson
my sonne Twenty Pounds of Lawfull mony of England It[e]m I give and bequeathe unto John
Margesson sonne of the the said John my Godsonne Tenne pounds of lawfull mony of England to be paid
and devyded unto my ov[er]seers w[i]thin half a yeer next ensueinge my decease to be imployed by them to the
benyfytte when he shall accomplishe his full age of One and twenty yeres Provided alwaies yf it
shall happen the said John my Godsonne to dye befor he shall accomplishe his full age of one and
twenty yeres that Legacie of teen pounds by me given aforsaid my will and mynd is shall
remayne and bee to the residue of the Children of John my sonne to be paid unto them at like age as
aforsaid to every one of them an equall porcone thereof It[e]m I give unto Mary Margesson
daughter of John Margesson teen shillings It[e]m Whereas Thomas Constable my sonne in Lawe is indebted
unto me Fyve pounds I release and acquite the said Thomas of the same Fyve pounds It[e]m I give
and bequeath unto Margaret Constable my goddaughter twenty shillings It[e]m I give to all the
residue of the said Thomas Constable Children teen shillings a peece, It[e]m I give and bequeath
unto Agnes Baxe my daughter the wife of Thomas Baxe Fyve pounds of Lawfull mony of
England, It[e]m I give to Agnes Baxe daughter of the said Thomas teen shillings It[e]m Whereas
William Constable my sonne in Lawe is indebted unto me Fyve pounds I release & acquite the said
William of the same Fyve pounds It[e]m I give unto ev[r]ye one of the said William Children teen
shillings a peece It[e]m I give unto John Margesson my god sonne sonne of Richard Margesson twenty
Shillings It[e]m I give to the residue of Richard Margesson Children teen shillings a peece It[e]m
I give unto Agnes Smed my sister forty shillings It[e]m I give unto Thomas Studman and
Richard Studman my brother in lawes teen shillings a peece It[e]m I give unto John Smed my godsonne
teen shillings It[e]m I give unto Thomas Peter and John Sherlock my godsonns two shillings a peece
It[e]m I give to Henry Tickner two shillings Itm I give to ev[r]ie of my s[er]vannts w[hi]ch ar now
dwelling im my house three shillings & fower penc a peece The residue of all my goods Cattels &
Chattes I give and bequeathe unto Margaret my beloved wyfe whome I mak my whole Executrixe
of this my last Will & Testam[en]te and she to take my debts & pay my debts & Legaces and to seeth is my
last will & testam[en]te fullfilled in all poynts as my trust is in her so to doe Also I ordayne & mak Thomas
Constable & Thomas Baxe my sonne in Lawes ov[er]seers to this my Last will trusting in them to see the same
truly executed as my trust is in them so to doe And so Lord into thy p[ro]tection I Comend my Soule
