Will of John Lees of Alt Hill, Ashton under Lyne, Yeoman 1674



In the name of God Amen

the seaventh day of May Anno D[omi]ni 1674 And in the sixe and twentieth

yeare of the Reigne of our most gratious Sovereigne Lord Charles the Second

by the grace of God King of England Scotland France and Ireland defender of

the Faith of I John Lees of Altehill within the Parish of Asheton Under Lyne in

the County of Lancaster, Yeoman being willing and desirous to setle and dispose

of my personall Estate whilst I am in perfect health and knowing death to bee

certaine to all Mankind but the time thereof most uncertaine doe therefore in my

sound memory and understanding make ordaine publish and declare this my last

will and Testament in manner following that is to witt It  is my Will and mind

that all such debts as I shall happen to owe unto any person or persons of right or

conscience at the time of my decease (if any such there bee) shall bee justly and truely

discharged and paid by my Executrix hereafter herein named out of my whole

goods Chattles and personall estate together with my funerall expenses And after

my debts paid and funerall expenses discharged Then my will and mind is That

all the rest remainder and residue of my said goods Chattles and personall estate

shall be divided into three equall p[ar]ts one p[ar]te whereof I give unto Alice my beloved

Wife And the other two p[ar]ts rest and residue of my said personall Estate I give

unto the Children of my said daughter Alice equally among them to bee paid to them

with the profitt and increase thereof from the time of my decease and I doe

hereby Constitute ordeine and make the said Alice my Wife sole Executrix of this

my last Will and Testament And doe desire my Loveing Friends Edward

Richardson and Robert Sandiforth to be Overseers hereof And doe hereby

revoke all former Wills Testaments Guifts Legacies bequests Executors & Overseers

by me before the makeing hereof made wills bequeathes or names in Witnesse

whereof I the said John Lees the Testator have herunto sett my hand and seale the

day and yeare first above written John Lees Sealed Signed published and

declared by the above named John Lees the Testator for and as his last Will and

Testament in the presence of us Nathan Leech Michaell Pimlett Juo Waite

egregii Viri d[omi]ni Leolini Jenkins Militis Legum etiam Doctoris Curia Prerogat

Juramento Alicia Lees Relicta dicti defuncti et Exexutricis in dicto Testamento
