In the name of God Amen the

fift daie of November One thousand sixe hundred twentie seaven in the yeares of the

Raigne of our Soveraigne Lord Charles by the grace of God King of England Scotland

France and Ireland the Third &c I John Johnson of Chart next Sutton Valence

in the Countie of Kent gent sicke in body, but of pfect and sound minde and memory praysed

bee god therefore, doe make and ordaine this my last will and Testament in manner and forme

following Revokeing hereby all former wills and testaments first I geeve and bequeath my soull

into the hands of Almighty god my maker assuredly hoping That through the only merritts of

Christ my redeemer to bee made partaker of everlasting life And my boddy to the earth to bee

buried at the disposing of my Executor hereafter named Item I will and my minde is that all such depts

or dueties as of right or in conscience I owe to any person or persons bee well and truly satisfied contented

and payed by my Executor or ells to ordaine that it bee well and truly satisfied and paid without any

contradiction owt of the revenues and profitts of fortie acres of woodland ground wch now I

stand seized of in Hollingbourne in the Countie of Kent afforsaid And alsoe out of the revenues &

proffitts of threescore acres of Earable and pasture land in Chart afforsaid excepting and allwaies

reserved cleer from the same payments one feild called the myll fyeld conteyning fower acres And

alsoe one feyld called the Coome conteyning two acres Alsoe one other fyeld call the kitchyn

meddowe contayning three acres And alsoe the upper and lower Lodge fields contayning by

estimacon (little more of lesse) seven acres Item whereas my wife Katalyna Johnson being now

wth Child my minde and my will is that if the same Child doe prove to be a sonne That then my

said Sonne shall have and enjoy all the forsaid fyvescore acres of lands after my debts first payed

out of the same. And alsoe I geeve and beequeath unto my Sonne All other my lands whatsoever wch

I now stand seised of, the possession of all which lands my minde is shalbe delivered unto him when he

shall have fully accomplished the age of eighteen yeares he my said Sonn then and after the said tyme

to paye or cause to bee paied unto my Executor his heires executors or administrators the one

fowerth part of the depts wch they or any of them shall paie out of the foresaid lands Item I geeve

and beequeath unto my brother Edward Johnson gent the sum of twentie pounds of lawfull

 

english money to bee payed unto him wthin one yeare next after my decease Item I geeve and beequeath

unto my sister Rose Chylld the sum of ten pounds of like English money to be likewise payed unto her

within one yeare and a halfe next after my decease Item I geeve and bequeath unto her fower children viz

Thomas Dorythy Robert and Elizabeth Chyld to every of them the sum of thyrty shillings of like

english money to be payed unto them wthin one yeare and a halfe after my decease Item I geeve and

bequeath unto my brother Robert Johnsons fower children viz John Elizabeth Robert & Katherin

Johnson the sum of fortie pounds to bee equallie devided and paied unto them when they shall have

accomplished theire ages of eighteene yeares apeece Item I geeve and bequeath unto my loveinge wife

Katalyne Johnson for her Joynter out of my lands the sum of sixescore pounds by the yeare of lawfull

English money to bee payed unto her yearly at the fower usual feastvall daie in the yeare by my

Executor viz thirtie pounds every quarter of a yeare next after my decease Item I geeve and

bequeath to my sister Susanna Locks1 fower children viz Ann Mary Susanna and                                            1 Sister in law

Margrett to every of them the sum of five shillings Item I geeve unto my sister Elizabeth

Askews two daughters the sum of two shillings and sixe pence apeece Item my minde and my will

is that if it shall fortune that the Chyyld wch my wife Katalyna now goeth wth all proves not

to bee a mann child but a womann chyld that then the said woaman Child my daughter to bee paied

the sum of five hundred pounds And the lands to remaine to my Executor And hee my said Executor

to use or put out the said sum of five hundred pounds wch I heerby geeve and beequeath unto my said

daughter for her best advantage and to bee paid unto her wth the proffitts out of my said lands

when she shall accomplish her age of seventeene yeares Item more I geeve and beequeath unto my

loveinge wife Katalyna my two best featherbedds and bedsteeds wthall manner of furniture

to the same two bedsteeds belonging Alsoe I geeve and bequeath unto my said wife Katalyna all

such and that houshold stuffe wch I now possesse and was sent downe into Kent unto mee and my said

wife by my mother in lawe Ann Cole Item more I geeve unto my said wife my browne nagge wth

the syde Saddle Item more I geeve unto the poore of the parrysh of Charte the sum of twentie shillings to

bee paied unto them ymmediately after my decease Item I geeve unto my brother in lawe Allexandr

Chyld the sum of fortie shillings to make him a ring Item I doe in duety wch I beare unto Thomas

Johnson my father I hopeing that he will carefully see this my last will and testament performed

doe make him my said father Thomas Johnson my sole Executor And doe will him and my mind is

that hee shall bestowe upon my funerall the sum of one hundred pounds or more as occasion shall

serve for menn and woemen mourners the number of seven and twentie wch for the healp & ease

of my said father my will is that my brother Allexander child shall healp to manage the same busines

Item I will and my minde is that if my said Executor Thomas Johnson my Father doe happen to departe

out of this mortall life before my Child if it bee a man child, doe accomplish the age of eighteene yeares

Then my minde is that my Brother Edward Johnson shall take and have the Executorship as my said

Father shold have don, or doe if he live so long Item more my minde and wyll is that my said

Executor shall yearely paie or cause to be paid unto my said loveing wife Katalyna the sum of sixe

pounds thirteen shillings and eight pence towards and for the bringing up of her child wch she goeth

wthall beeying my Sonne or daughter untill it shall accomplish the age afforesaid And alsoe I geeve

unto my said wife Katalyna the sum of ten pounds of lawfull english money wch one John Thornton

of Yalding oweth unto mee In witnes whereof I have heerunto sett my hand and seale the fift daye

of November first abovewritten John Johnson Sygned sealled and subscribed in the presents of us

have caused to bee made and written and have Annexed the

same to this my last will and Testament beefore the

sealing thereof this sixt day of Novembr One Thousand

sixe hundred twentie seaven

 

Item whereas I the said John Johnson have by this my last will and testament made geeven

and bequeathed unto my loveing wife Katalyna Johnson one Joynter (ont my lands & possions

 

wch I the said John Johnson now stand seised of) of the sum of sixescore pounds by the yeare to bee paied unto

her quarterly after my decease by even and equall porcons at the fower most usuall festivall daies in the yere

viz by thirtie pounds every festivall daie quarterly now my mind and my will is that if default shall at

ant time be by my Executor mad in any of the said quarterly payments of the said Joynter due unto my

said wife Katalyna Johnson That then my minde is that the said wife Katalyna Johnson shall and

maie lawfully enter and seise any parte of my said lands to the value of the said sum of sixescore pounds

by the yeare and have hold and retayne the same land soe by her seised to her owne proper use and behoof
