Will of David Edis of Elton, Huntingdonshire written 1659, died and proved 1690

 

 

In the Name of God Amen

The Twentyeth day of June in the yeare of our Lord Christ

according to the accompt of the Church of England one thousand six

hundred fifty and nine I David Edis of Elton otherwise Aylton otherwise

Allington in the County of Huntingdon being sick in body neverthelesse

of good and perfect memory praise be given unto Almighty God

therefore I doe make and ordayne this my last Will and Testament

in manner and forme following First I commend my soule unto

Almighty God who gave it me and to Jesus Christ my only Redeemer

and Saviour And my body to the earth to be buryed in such decent

manner as my Executrix hereafter named shall be thought fitt and

convenient And I give unto my eldest sonne David Edis my antient

Cottage in Elton aforesaid with the appurtenances with all barnes stables

buildings with all and singular the Fences and pailes unto the yards

belonging together with three acres and halfe an acre of arrable

Lands with the appurtenances one woode of water meadow unto him

the said David Edis and his Heires forever which said three acres

and halfe of Land was given me by my Father David Edis with

one bedstead and Furniture thereunto belonging which said bedd and furniture my

Father David Edis gave me with all my workeing tooles in the shoppe

with my desk and chest And I give unto my daughter Jane Edis

Twenty pounds to be paid unto her within six months after shee the

said Jane Edis shall accomplish the age of eighteene yeares that is to

say Fifteene pounds to be paid unto her by my sonne David Edis

and five pounds by my Executrix at the time aforesaid with one

cupboard and one chest And I give unto my second sonne William

Edis all that my arrable Land and Meadow in Elton aforesaid with

the appurtenances which said Land I the said David Edis purchased

of John Wells gent of the same unto him the said William Edis and

his Heires forever my said sonne William paying fifteene pounds unto

my sonne John Edis when hee my said sonne John shall accomplish the age

of one and twenty yeares And I give unto my third sonne aforesaid

John Edis Twenty pounds to be paid unto him as aforesaid that is to

say Fifteene pounds by my sonne William Edes and five pounds by

my Executrix when my said sonne John shall attaine the age of

one and twenty yeares as aforesaid And I give unto my fourth sonne Nicholas

Edis Twenty pounds to be paid by my Executrix when hee my said sonne

Nicholas shall accomplish the age of one and twenty And I give unto

my youngest daughter Anne Edis Twenty pounds to be paid unto her by

my Executrix when shee my said daughter Anne shall accomplish the age

of one and twenty yeares All the rest of my goods and chattells unbequeathed

I give and bequeath unto Elizabeth Edis my beloved wife whom I make

and ordaine my sole Executr[ix] of this my last Will and Testament And I

make and appoint my brother Nicholas Edis and Richard Kingston

Supervisors of this my Will and to be Guardians for my children And I give

unto each of them five shillings apeece / David Edis / Signed Sealed

and published in the presence of us John Wells Nicholas Edis Richard

sancta Dei Evangelia Jurat Elizabeth Edes Executrice in hu[jus]mo[d]i Testam[en]to

nominat in vita Testatoris deniertua

 

Translation

Eleventh day of December Year of our Lord One thousand

seven hundred and ninety ? commission Robert Edis natural

and legitimate son of David Edis deceased recently of Elton in the County of Huntingdon ?

etc To administer the goods rights and credits of the said deceased according to the tenor and effect

of the Will of the same deceased to well and truly administer the same by

Lord God and the Angels swore Elizabeth Edes Executrix in this will

nominated
