Will of Alice Pickford (nee Lees) widow 1730, of Alt Hill in the parish of Ashton under Lyne

 

In the Name of God Amen the Eighteenth Day of June Anno D[omi]ni One thousand seven hundred twenty and six I Alice Pickford of

Althill in the parish of Ashton underlyne in the County of Lancaster Widow for preferring peace and unity in my Family do make this my last Will and Testament in maner following And

first whereas I and seised poss[ess]ed or interested of and in two Messuages and Tenements with the appurtenances in Macclesfield in the County of Chester by virtue of one or more Lease or

Leases held for life or lives or years determinable upon Lives from or under Thomas late Earl Rivers and also of and in a pew or seat in Macclesfield Chappel I do hereby give

devise and bequeath the said Two Tenements and pew or Seat and all my Estate Terms Tenantright and interest therein respectively unto my Grandson John Pickford and his

Assigns for and during the Term of his n[atu]ral life only but no longer Remainder after his decease to my Son James Pickford and his Assigns during all my Estate and Interest

in the said prem[is]es respectively In Trust that if my said Grandson have any living Issue at his decease Then the whole profits of the said prem[is]es and the use and

Benefit of the said pew or seat shall be applyed to the only use of such Issue, and the said James Pickford upon request shall assigne all his Title and Interest in

the said prem[is]es to the life of such Issue accordingly But if the said John Pickford have no living Issue at the time of his decease Then In Trust for my

Grandson Joseph Pickford and the Issue of his Body and the said James Pickford upon like request shall assigne all his Right Title and Interest in the

said prem[is]es to the said Joseph and the issue of his Body And whereas my said Son James Pickford stands bounds as surety with the late Brother John Pickford

(my eldest Son) deceased for a Debt of One hundred and Fifty pounds besides Interest to Mrs Elizabeth Wrigley Now the said Testatrix for the speedier payment of

the said Debt and for the indemnity if the said James Pickford do hereby give and devise to the same James All the Oak trees and Timber whatsoever standing

growing or being in or upon a Tenement in Whitfield within Oldham parish in the said County of Lancaster now or late in pos[es]sion of John Hamm or his Undertenan]ts

with full power for my said Son James Pickford and his Assigns to full cut square break sell and dispose of the said Oak Trees and Timber a his and their Wills and

pleasures at any time during and with the Term of Seven Years next after my decease without rendring any account for the same and as well touching the

Freehold and Furniture of the said last menconed Tenement as all other my Messuages Lands and Tenements in Greenacres and Oldham in the said County now or

late in the several tenures or Occupacons of James Bardsley al[ia]s poden James Taylore and Ann Jones Widow I give and devise the to my said Grandson

Joseph Pickford and his heirs forever paying to his Sister Elizabeth when and so soon as she attain her full age of Twenty one years the sum of Three hundred

pounds of lawfull Money without Interest But if the said Joseph dye in his Minority without Issue then I devise all the said prem[is]es in Whitfield Greenacres

and Oldham aforesaid unto my said Son James Pickford and his heirs for ever charged with the said Three hundred pounds as aforesaid Item and as

touching all my Messuages, Lands and Tenements situate and being in Sadleworth in the County of York I give and devise the same to my said Grandson

John Pickford and his Assigns for his life only Remainder to my Son James Pickford and his Assigns during the life of the same John, In Trust to preserve the

Contingent Remainders herein after limitted from being destroyed and for that purpose to make Entry or bring accord as occasion shall require but

nevertheless shall permit the said John Pickford to have and receive the profits thereof for his life And after the decease of the said I give all the said

prem[is]es in Sadleworth aforesaid unto the first second and all other the Sons of the said John Pickford severally Successively and in remainder one after

another as they and every of them shall be in Seniority of age and priority of Birth and the several and respective heirs of the Bodys of all and every such Son and Sons

lawfully issueing The elder of the said Sons and the heirs of his Body issuing to be preferred and to take before the younger of the said Sons and the heirs of his and their Bodys

issuing And for default of such Issue I devise all the said last menconed prem[is]es unto my Grandson Joseph Pickford and the heirs of his Body Remainder to my said

son James Pickford and his heirs for ever And whereas my said Son James Pickford hath lately renewed the Lease of Althill Tenement aforesaid where I now live

and taken the same in his own name I do hereby ratifye and confirm the same to him his heirs and Assigns during all the Term thereby granted and moreover do

hereby give and devise to the said James Pickford and his heirs for ever A Messuage and Tenement called Coohill in Chadderton in Oldham parish aforesaid

heretofore purchased by my late father from one Thomas Collinson and three Closes or parcels of Land in the said parish of Ashton underlyne with all the Buildings thereupon

now in poss[ess]ion of Jona? Wilde or his Assigns heretofore purchased by my Late Mother from David Harrop and James Whittacre and all Rents and p[ro]fits thereupon

reserved due or payable To Hold the said Messuage Tenement Closes and pret[???]ed unto the said James Pickford his heirs and Assigns for ever Item I give to my

said Grandsons John Pickford and Joseph Pickford and to their Sisters Catalena Grace and Elizabeth and to each and every of them a broad peece of Gold and All the

residue of my personal Estate w[ha]tsoever (debts and funeral Charges being first paid) I give to my said son James Pickford and to my daughters Alice and Grace

Pickford Equally to be devided amongst them and hereof do make the three residuary Legatees joint Ex[ecut]ors As Witness my Hand and Seal the day and year

abovesaid.
